Virtual production blurs the line between the physical and the digital, creating a unique challenge for sonic immersion. Iris Gambit was shot entirely in a green screen environment, utilizing Unreal Engine 5 for real-time background rendering. The absence of a natural acoustic environment on set meant that every sonic detail had to be constructed from scratch.
The post-production workflow required a tight integration between DaVinci Resolve for color grading and Pro Tools for audio post. The challenge was to match the lighting changes from the LED walls with corresponding shifts in ambience and reverb convolution.
Foley was recorded to give weight to the actors' movements, preventing the common "floating" feeling often seen in green screen productions. We used granular processing to create the sci-fi interface sounds, ensuring they felt embedded in the world rather than layered on top.
