User 4220 is a study in isolation and identity within a digitized world. My involvement in both the production and post-production phases allowed for a holistic sonic strategy. On set, the focus was on capturing the stark, cold reality of the protagonist's environment—the hum of servers, the hollow resonance of empty rooms.
The score serves as the character's internal monologue, contrasting sharply with the dry, realistic production sound. I used analog synthesizers to create a warm, yet deteriorating musical texture that mirrors the character's mental state. This juxtaposition between the hyper-real location sound and the abstract score creates a sense of unease.
By controlling the audio chain from the boom microphone to the final mix, I ensured that the dialogue remained intimate and fragile, often threatened by the swelling electronic soundscapes that represent the encroaching digital void.
